An Aldi's grocery store now occupies the site where Spandau Prison used to stand. It would sure be a pisser to be shopping for cheap groceries and be accosted by the ghost of Rudolph Hess.

It would definitely make it hard to enjoy a 99¢ pizza, that's for sure.

He was a fascist, so I'm sure his favorite Spandau Ballet song was probably "Musclebound." Or maybe "Gold," since the nazis did love looting the stuff.

Finally got around to reading the article Jermoe posted to, and besides the insufferable attitude on the part of the writer (wow, does anyone think that Grizzly Bear and Animal Collective are going to sound any less idiotic 25 years from now than Spandau Ballet does now? And hell, I never even liked Spandau Ballet, although the Kemp brothers kicked ass in that gangster movie), was dismayed to see this link on the page:

Yeah, funny, funny man. This line in It's a Mad, etc. makes me laugh every time:

"Irwin, we're gonna have to kill him."

The weird thing about It's a Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad World is that Stanley Kramer just wanted it to be a silly, light-hearted romp after his previous downer movies like On the Beach and Judgement at Nuremberg, but it's really one of the bleakest and most cynical depictions of human nature ever put on film, where basically decent people suddenly become deranged, property destroying lunatics when the prospect of a big payoff is dangled in front of them, and no good deed goes unpunished along the way.

I enjoy the hell out of the movie, but it's a lot different than the movie Kramer seemed to think he'd made.

But as far as I know it's the last time on film that Joe E. Brown did his trademark "hhhhhhhheeeeeeeeeeeeyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy!!!!!!" howl, which was always great. Wish to heck someone would put Six Day Bike Rider out on DVD.
