Seems that somebody is really out of touch with the new millennium:

p.s.
I really, really think Kings of Leon have become a colossal waste of time.

Use Somebody is huge in redneck bars. They seem like a decent Pearl Jam/Nickelback/Train type band.

It took K of L four albums to learn how to write a hook, and they used it to become obnoxious power balladeers. Thanks but no thanks.

i think the vocalist in kings of leon sounds like steve winwood... so i don't listen to them.

Steve Winwood with a gopher stuffed down his gullet, methinks.

If I see one more list put Modern Times above Love and Theft, I am going to scream.

2 Spoon albums are on the list and Ga ga ga ga ga isn't one of them. Wrong.

2 Wilco albums are on the list and they ain't ones I like, but I'd actually say Sky Blue Sky is a terrible record. Elevator music with Hallmark card level lyrics.

Kings of Leon were of mild interest on their debut and it's been a long decline since (albeit a decline that ended up at the bank).

This guy does know that black people make music too, right?

My impression is that most of us on this board are not exactly plugged into black music. I dabble with hip hop a bit, but am overall pretty ignorant. Guilty as charged.

As predictable a list as one would expect coming from someone with his mainstream music biz background. I doubt he even listened to most of those albums!

I'm a big black music fan (as well as being a Big Black music fan!) but since this isn't a classic funk/African/ska/Afro-Cuban/old-skool hip hop board, I don't get into it much here. I became somewhat uninterested in rock in the '90s and really got into the funky Afro thang.

So, yeah, I'd put on the list: Antibalas, Seun and Femi Kuti, Congo-tronics, Staff Benda Bilili. And Sharon Jones and Lisa from the Bellrays could wipe the floor with Beyonce.

Exactly.

And thanks for the shout-out to Lisa Kekaula. I intend to do a BellRays TP entry someday. (Along with all my other false promises...)

Clearly, Mr. Scoppa knows this. Some of the guys in The Dap Kings (who played on Winehouse's debut) are black.

What a predictable list.

By the way, Kill The moonlight is 3 times the album that Ga Ga Ga Ga Ga is.

"By the way, Kill The moonlight is 3 times the album that Ga Ga Ga Ga Ga is."

I prefer Ga X 5, but Kill the Moonlight is my 2nd fave. I think the 2nd half of it drops off a little, but it's an ace record anyway. A case could probably be made for 3 or 4 of their records as the best one.

One of my issues with Spoon prior to Ga X 5 was that I always thought they were a straight Pop band pretending to be an Art-pop band. For Ga x 5 I thought they embraced their inner Hall & Oates (?!?) and delivered not just a good batch of tunes, but ones that had some emotional heft to them.
