Still incredibly pissed that I was actually in NYC while Passing Strange was on Broadway, had a free night during which to go to a Broadway show with a co-worker, and she nixxed Passing Strange and made me go see fucking Mamma Mia instead, even though the touring version of the wretched thing was coming to the Lou a month later and the movie two months after that. (For the record, I loves ABBA, but Mamma Mia the play is about as dreadful an experience as mankind has dreamed up, at least in the "non-physical beating, starvation or genocide" category.)

Shoulda put my foot down and insisted on Passing Strange. I learned the hard way the perils of drinking whiskey before 5 pm - your judgement is impaired.

That sounds like one of those times when you tell your traveling companion, "Okay, you go your way and I'll go mine. Have fun."

That would be a good idea in theory, but it would've required ignoring the fact that she's awfully cute.

Whiskey before 5 pm + cute girl = watching damn Mamma Mia. That's just how these things work.

For some reason, I was thinking Spike Jones. Spike Lee, huh. Hm.

I was a Negro Problem fan a long time ago, and saw them in front of an audience of ten in Cambridge, MA once in 2000 or so — and still haven't seen or heard Passing Strange. I put the DVD on my Netflix cue.
