Yearbook Quotes

Funny shit. Here's what the stoners wrote circa 1983

And what did I write? I wanted to quote a rock lyric, but changed my mind. I conjured Poe instead: All that we see or seem is but a dream within a dream. Looking back, I would've loved to quote Peter Gabriel - What's gone is gone and I do not give a damn. However, if I had to do it all again, I would quote from The Fall:

You won't find anything more ridiculous than these new profile razor units mixed with the highest British attention of obsolete units surrounded by hail. The Classical! The Classical!

It was 1983. I didn't know shit.

Bet I was weirder then you-all! I quoted Sun Ra: "And that is the difference between I and them - I see them as they are to is, and not the seeming is-ness of the was."

Wasn't even really familiar with his music at the time, just loved the quote. Years later I did get into his music (and got the DVD of his film "Space Is The Place.")

Hey, it's LA: weirdos were/are a dime a dozen here. I had to really stick my neck out to get a little attention.

My yearbook picture quotes were:

I also added

"No, no, no, no, Don't spit!" which was an injoke we'd built around Morrissey's coments during a show at the Hacienda '83.

I was a high school loser, never made it with the ladies, but I sure made the pages of my High School Yearbook stick together with lotsa jism.

That's just my improved version of the Aerosmith quote.

Usually I went with this:

"Don't worry bout me

For (some of) the ladies, however:

"Listening to you, I get the music,
Gazing at you, I get the heat..."

The Who thing actually worked for me more than once.

A hardcore drug dealer at my school never messed around and never wasted any time. His business always came first even in his quote, which was:

15th S. 32nd St.

I quoted The Replacements:

"Wish Upon A Star ... That Turns Into A Plane."

There was a better lyric from Stink, but the yearbook staff would have taken a dim view if I had tried to quote it.

I quoted Hüsker Dü in my college yearbook:

Yearbooks with their autographs
of friends you should have had /
These are your important years
You'd better make them last


I can't remember the other quotes I used in various yearbooks, but notably I once used something in Hebrew that a clueless editor inserted upside down.
