That got me started down this path of stupid nostalgia. My senior prom's "theme song" was a little number by Billy "I-Still-Can't-Believe-Christie-Brinkley-Actually-Slept-With-Me" Joel called "This Is The Time."

I would have rather danced to an Atilla song, but no one asked me for input. I had to vote from five shitty songs that the majority "opted" for (I still insist that it was all payola-driven).

What rubbish were you forced to endure? What song would you have wanted if you had the final say?

Given the title of what we were saddled with, I'd almost say "This Is The One" by The Stone Roses. Maybe a Roy Orbison tune? Anything but The Piano Man! Gawd!

My prom song was a piece of audio wallpaper called "One More Night" by Phil Collins.

The prom songs are always about marking the passing of time "This is the Time"......"One More Night" ......that Green Day "I Hope You Had The Time of Your Life" song.......

There should be a rule that they can only be songs about being jilted (to make each prom couple slightly on edge for the whole night).

It would have been utterly pretentious to have these played for eighteen year-olds, but had we been able to appreciate them, I'd've liked to hear Fairport's "Who Knows Where The Time Goes," and "Meet On The Ledge."

My yearbook picture quotes were:

Our theme song was Alphaville's "Forever Young", which admittedly beats the crap outta the next year's theme song ("I Had the Time Of My Life").
If I'd known about it at the time I would have written in No Trend's "Teen Love". Alas...

The only time Billy Joel played rock n roll was with Attica - a band that deserved worldwide success. On his own, Billy became the antirock. I'm sorry but no rocker ever sings about "reading the New York Times." And no rocker ever refers to his nights as "my sweet romantic teenage nights." Ugh.

Apparently there were two versions of the Last Prom - one from the 60s or early 70s and I it was remade in 1980. I remember the earlier one.
