I saw in either 1989 or 1990 on the
Peace and Love tour at Numbers, a tiny club in Houston. (I saw the Replacements there just a couple of weeks earlier.) Shane was drunker than any ambulatory human I'd ever seen, before or since, but, by God, he stayed upright and engaged for the whole show. Except for when he forgot the words to "A Pair of Brown Eyes," he was fantastic. And the band was incredible, too. I hope they're as good now as they were then.
I gotta say, though - Shane looks bloody awful. I've even seen a pic with his new teeth (which are already stained and ugly), and he still looks bad. I know that as long as he can still sing and write it doesn't matter, but still...yeesh.
