Rock & Horror easily go hand in hand, and if you add comic books, they all were blamed for juvenile delinquency. Rock & Science Fiction, though, have always made strange bedfellows, although a lot of rock stars have pulled it off. These people immediately come to mind:

David Bowie
Klaus Nomi
Gary Numan
Brian Eno
David Byrne
Peter Gabriel, etc.

David Bowie - "Space Odyssey" (duh, I know) and "Ashes to Ashes (Major Tom"
Peter Schilling - "Major Tom (Coming Home)"
Flock of Seagulls - "It's Not Me Talking"
And Blondie's "Rapture" could qualify (remember the alien that came to earth to eat cars, bars, guitars-yeah!, etc.)

Yes, those are great Bowie songs.
But I prefer his more famous tunes like "The Girl With The Mousey Hair", and "Weird & Gilly."

Most of Galaxie 500's songs were about travelling into the future (the very, very, near future- the present!) and finding it barren and desolate compared to the world of their memory. Where soulless beings sit alone and eat Twinkies and Coke and wait for their girlfriends to return- from Space!

Blondie had several sci-fi influenced tracks. In addition to the two mentioned by Tom, there's also "Dragonfly," "Rapture," "Europa" and "Bermuda Triangle Blues," with "Screaming Skin." "The Tingler" and "Dig Up the Conjo" crossing over into horror.

Warren Zevon - "Transverse City"
Roky Erickson - He's mostly into horror, but "Sputnik," "Two Headed Dog" and even "Creature with the Atom Brain" are more SF.
Rezillos - "Flying Saucer Attack"
Robert Palmer - "I Dream of Wires"
Eurythmics - 1984 soundtrack
The Church - "Metropolis" (which I think was supposed to be about a futuristic zoo or something)
Slowdive - "Souvlaki Space Station"
Catherine Wheel - "Ursa Major Space Station"
Pink Floyd - "Set the Controls for the Heart of the Sun"
U2 - "The Wanderer" (maybe, depending on what they said it was about any given week)
Radiohead - Kid A - possibly a concept album about the first human clone, possibly not

Well, there was that War of the Worlds album.

And Tarkus, by ELP. That's a piece of s-- I mean, it's a fantastic fable about futuristic animal/machines who fight each other for some reason. My brother was once in a band called Manticore because of that very album. He is still embarrassed, yes, he is.

By Jeff Wayne. I have a nostalgic fondness for that album, cheesy as it is. I was actually excited by the Legacy remaster/reissue a few years back.

As a dedicated fan of 70s prog, I can honestly say that your first instinct about Tarkus (and ELP, for that matter) is dead on.

The War of the Worlds album has a 7-disc version, with remixes, outtakes, and a DVD of its creation. That's besides the 2 remix albums that are also out.

And that's why there's no 2-disc version of Black Sea -- there's no CD room left in the world.

How could I forget the Alan Parsons project.

ELP was mentioned earlier. I was always hoping they would make a movie out of their song, Karn Evil 9. It could be a scary movie where the Karnival comes to town and eats people up and vacuums out their brains. Sumpin like dat.
