I listened to the M of L's Keep a Secret just a couple of weeks ago. I never could much get into their later work, but that album is something special.

I bought the two Rollerskate Skinny albums on recommendation of that very book. Still not fully sold, but they're the kind of albums that take years to fully take in, I suspect. I liked them enough to buy the Kid Silver, Lotus Crown and Favourite Sons albums by RS alumni.

Odd you should mention Rollerskate Skinny. Just ripped "Horsedrawn Wishes" onto MP3 last night to give it a spin (at work) for the first time in easily five years. It was in heavy rotation when it had first come out. Still prefer "Shoulder Voices" by the slimmest of margins, but HW is very much more ambitious. Great CD. "Speed To My Side" and "Man Under Glass" were the standouts. "All Mornings Break" reminds me a lot of lysergic hangovers.

There looked to be a lyric sheet, which is good because even with headphones on, I couldn't understand a lot of the lyrics.

A forklift driver at work asked me "Watcha'll listenin' to?" and when I told him the name of the band, and asked if he'd ever heard of them, he said he had. He looked more like a Skynrd fan, which just goes to show what I know. Suspect that he was just being polite.

That CD always turns up in junk bins. I'd ask why, but it would be an easy answer. Also have to keep checking the credits to see for sure that Dave Fridmann was not in any way involved with making that CD. It's approach is basically the same as his.

Maybe I should pull my MoL discs out of the "donate to my old college radio station" box....
