Kid Rock, what a crocka shit. Lifted the entire riff of gentleman Warren Zevon's Werewolves of London and worked it into his maggoty, cockroach ridden song. Quite poorly, I might add.

Somebody better tell KR that he sucks, and pronto. Any TPers up to the task?

Okay. I'll do it.

His lameness knows no bounds. He began as an unconvincing rapper. During the Golden Age of Hip-Hop I saw one of his tapes in the bargain bin (should have been a tip-off), thought I'd give it a try. Doubt I even listened to it a second time before I threw it on the resale pile. And I was a huge rap fan at the time.

Then he went metal/ hard rock. Now he's country. Hardcore honky tonk. Cuz, y'know, he's from that down-home backwoods land of Detroit.

He certainly puts the "honky" in honky-tonk, har har!

Now come on, let's be fair here. He's managed to ... well, actually, he did, umm ... Wait a minute, didn't he ...

Okay, like I said, let's be fair here. Kid Rock sucks the bag.

Interesting how many lame-ass rock bands/singers are jumping on the (it's really not) country bandwagon. I have a political theory about this, but I'd hate to bore you. It's linked to the rise of hip-hop and the alienation of... damn, I got started. Sorry.

And is there anything more ass-kissing than pop-country these days?

Speaking of country, I wish Dolly Parton would step out of the spotlight. I mean, what she did to her lips, mein gott. She looks like a stonefish in drag.
Since she's a legend, why can't she manage a modicum of dignity like Emmylou Harris? Dolly, shrink your lips so we can focus, again, on your tits. A gimmick doesn't need another gimmick.

Also the riff to "Sweet Home Alabama."

Someone needs to tell him that acknowledging the song you're ripping off doesn't change that the fact that he's riding the coattails of someone else's song. If he can't write his own riffs, it's time to hang it up.

He's the musical equivalent to junk food...just another product with no nutritional content.

Re: Kid Crock
May 12, 2009 03:28PM
....except that with junk food, there's usually at least some component of pleasure to the experience. I know Cheetos are terrible for me and have no nutritional content, but they sure damn taste good. Not so with Kid Rock.
Re: Kid Crock

Somebody must like him because he's certainly selling records. I find macaroni and cheese (and Cheetos) repulsive but many people gobble that shit up.

He delivers music that blue collar, beer drinkin', workin' joes like. What a motherfucker.

Nothing wrong with that, which I think is your point. My issue is him blatantly ripping off someone else's song, acknowledging it in the song itself, and scoring one of the biggest rock hits of the year. Which, come to think of it, probably says more about the rock audience just wanting to hear familiarity than it does about Rock's unoriginality.

12 posts and no reference to Pamela Anderson. We are surely a tactful lot! To me, his association with Pamela is the only reason he merits an historical footnote.

My initial exposure to Kid Rock was in Grand Royal magazine:

Kid Rock? File under "Anything To Get Over Commercially" and forget about him. He's Vanilla Ice with an iota of suburban "street cred."

Call it "Cul-de-sac Cred." Strictly bottom of the bag.

Watched Vh1 Soul yesterday, as they were playing a block of Earth, Wind, and Fire videos, a band I still love. They played some Kirk Franklin "tribute" to the song "September" that was nothing but a note-for-note, boringly choir-sung version with Franklin yelling "It's a tribute!" and "Yeah!" every few bars. I immediately thought of this thread. It sounds like that old Onion piece about Puff Daddy just re-releasing a song that was already out, without any addition, and claiming it as his own. I hope the royalty checks are nice.

If you wanna get women at a karaoke bar, though, "Cowboy" works pretty well, though... (hides head in shame)

Ever the charmer.

Congrats! This means you're free to resume the dedicated scrapbook! Free to write "I Heart KR" on your spiral notebooks with only minimal chagrin. Free to be you, Aitch. Free to remind people that there are posters with something meaningful to say. Thanksanddon'teverchange.

The free credit report band has more credibility than Kid Rock.
