And where would Christian Bale be without him (first role: Empire of the Sun)? Furthermore, where would the Internet be without Christian Bale('s tirades)? Ergo, where would the Internet be without Ballard?

And where would we all be without Marilyn Chambers, the honey-haired porn starlet we all loved and grew up with since her angelic face showed up on the Ivory Snow box?

Her squeeze box expired recently. She was only in her fifties. What caused her death is a mystery. Could it be too much sausage?

I saw "Empire of the Sun" before I had heard of JG Ballard. Typical Spielberg - trying to make every scene an epic. I hated it. I discovered Ballard in a book about cult authors. He sounded pretty out of there so I checked out one of his book's from the library. I don't remember the title but it was standard sci-fi as far as I was concerned.

I have since seen "Crash" which was hilariously bad (but marginally better than the Oscar winning one). From what I've read the book "Crash" IS way out there, so I may have to check out another book.

On Marilyn Chambers - favorite band was Chicago. Fave quote: (on trying to go from adult movies to mainstream movies "I thought there would be a chance to cross over. Boy, was I wrong".

Dude. Have you seen Still Insatiable? She'd aged, but not that badly...

Ballard's ideas on "The Body" are extremely influential. I'd love to go into more detail (ownership vs. society), but I'm too busy celebrating Santa's Birthday.

I may proceed to check out STill Insatiable, blas, but with caution.

Yeah, caution's pretty advised. I think the connect through Marilyn Chambers to JG Ballard goes through David Cronenberg: Chambers to Rabid to Cronenberg to Crash.

Empire of the Sun might've come out quite differently though, if she was in it.
