Travelling again

I'm going to be visiting San Diego next week. Any recommendations?

Try the mexican food. There's also lots of good, inexpensive asian food. I can make recommendations for places to eat.

Coronado is pretty. La Jolla Cove too. The San Diego Zoo is world class, and the associated Wild Animal Park has some big game and room for them to run free. There are some ok museums in Balboa Park but nothing special. Not a lot of culture here in San Diego, I'm afraid. It's all about great weather, scenic beaches and pretty women.

Two tourist traps you can avoid are Seaport Village and Old Town. There's nothing interesting there. They were created solely for the purpose of ripping off tourists.

You can check the free weekly Reader for live music. Probably the best live music venue in San Diego is the Belly Up Tavern in Solana Beach. But note that most of the good acts either don't make it to San Diego (they frequently go no further south than Los Angeles) or they perform at cheesy Indian casinos that charge a mint for entry. When it comes to live music I really miss the Bay Area.

I wouldn't recommend going south of the border to visit Mexico right now. The Mexican government is in an all out battle with the drug cartels. It's pretty bad.

La Jolla Cove is key. I stayed at the old Valencia Hotel there. Lots of paths and mini beaches to walk on in the cove.

The La Valencia Hotel in La Jolla is a very nice place. Lots of good restaurants nearby too.
