10 great albums which either dealt directly with of were products of the Cold War:

1. The Clash - Sandinista: If the superpowers don't annihilate each other, the little countries they pushed around will eventually rise up and do 'em in.

2. OMD - Dazzle Ships: International tensions cause technology to hurtle forward at a faster pace than morality

3. Prince - 1999: The world is going to end in Mutually Assured Destruction. Let's Party!

4. Bruce Cockburn - Stealing Fire: A pacifist looks at the "he may be a son of a bitch, but he's our son of a bitch" mentality the great powers employed in Central America and vows to kill the whole lot of them

5. David Bowie - Low: The entire world is West Berlin, surrounded by the enemy

6. The Monks - Black Monk Time: The occupying force on the front lines lets off some steam

7. The Police - Zenyatta Mondatta: The Police take a jaunt through some of the countries being used as pawns by the superpowers and emerge with a social conscience.

8. Eno - Taking Tiger Mountain (By Strategy): Eno flirts with Maoist philosophy, ends up concluding that the lunatics of the world are running the asylum

9. The Call - Modern Romans: "I don't think there are any Russians/and there ain't no yanks/just corporate criminals/playing with tanks"

10. House of Freaks - Monkey on a Chain Gang: Robert Oppenheimer's shadow lingers in the world like a half-life.
