I loaned a friend of mine a box set, then demanded it back. Didn't care how uncool I sounded.

Bob Dylan's nashville skyline, twice. First had the cassette, lost it, bought the CD, lost it, and finally replaced it with a record, which seems to be staying put.

I recently lent a co-worker several CDs by The Who. She brought them back today, but before I even knew she'd brought them to work, I got a call from another co-worker (who sits next to her), asking if he could borrow them. Only in Cubicleville.

I'm on my third copy of The Refreshments' Fizzy Fuzzy Big & Buzzy. The first copy (apparently) walked out with one of our party guests. The second one is just AWOL; no clue as to its whereabouts. I just hope it's being played and enjoyed frequently, as it should be.

Someone took my cassette of "The Lion & The Cobra" back in the day.

An ex stole my Jesus & Mary Chain CD single of "Come On." They made a copy of it and mailed said copy to me with apologies ... but I still bear a grudge. I mean ... WHAT NERVE! I was tempted to photocopy my rump and mail that back to them.

I gave my first copy of Suburban Light to a girl I met at a Yo La Tengo show in Philadelphia. I went right out and bought it again promptly. I could mainline The Clientele. Really.

I fell asleep on the El in Philadelphia and woke up to find that some jerk-off had stolen several CDs out of my backpack:

Imagine the junkie/boozer who lifted them trying to sell them for anything. Not like most people are baying at the moon for Plasticland these days. I'm sure the transaction went something like:

"What the f**k is THIS?"

Somewhere in Philly, there is a junkie humming "It's Alright, Baby" as they tie off. "Never could unload this crap."

On a happier note:

I found a copy of "Strange Times" by The Chameleons U.K. behind a mall in Pennsylvania. I already owned it on cassette ... but what the hell, right? Turns out that "Strange Times" is one of two titles that I own in three formats (LP/CASS/CD). Wire's "The Ideal Copy" is the other.

I found a cassette of "Foghat Live" alongside the highway in Roanoke, Virginia.

I bought a very dodgy Sex Pistols boot (weird, right?) on vinyl and on one of the LP sides there was big band music or some such garbage. I can't remember ... but it was NOT The Pistols.

Lost and Found? Amazing record. As part of the Jason and the Scorchers Essentials, Vol. 1, with Fervor, it makes one of the greatest CD's of all time.

I'm still waiting for my friend Trace to give me back my copy of Sandinista. It's been years.

I have had many copies of The Only Ones "Remains" go missing over the years.

Original vinyl was swiped.

At least 1 or 2 copies lost during moves.

Owned it 4 times - which is a lot for a B-sides/rarities album I think....

Now you know the REAL reason God gave us CD burners! Saves/builds friendly working and personal relationships indeed!

Haven't really had anything "walk" (knock on whatever wood you can find), but I have had to rebuy several discs after they've broken, warped (I've found out the hard way that, yes, cassettes DO warp, even in/with their cases, if left in your car's glove department on a hot day), melted (note: don't leave CDs too close to desk lamps), had water spilled on them, had the wrong CD in the jewelcase when cleaning out my collection (lost part of a Miles Davis live 70s 2-CD set this way), etc.

I thought that any cassette left too long in an automobile eventually turned into a copy of "Queen's Greatest Hits."
