oh where oh where can my baby be?

oh where oh where can my baby be?

Songs in which the narrator's love has kicked the bucket (or is kicking it right in front of him/her):

D.O.A.
I Heard Her Call My Name
Street Hassle
The Bed (no more Lou songs!)
Blasphemous Rumours
My Wife and My Dead Wife
Oh Candy (?)

the Chills - "Pink Frost"

Never been too sure which of the two categories above it fits into, though. Have never been able to cipher if the narrator is witnessing or causing a death. Whichever one, he seems to feel awfully bad about it.

Pink Frost? I always just assumed that she was really ill.

What'll I do IF she dies?"

A better (less ambiguous) Chills tune might be "16 Heart-throbs" off of Brave Words:

... Oh God this white ward stinks, sterilized stench of sticky death
Snivelling relatives at the feet of another moist corpse
But that corpse is Jayne and Jayne can't die
Jayne with the why why why ..."

Next on the morose, maudlin mix? "Reflections After Jane" by The Clientele, of course. I mean, what the hell. Right?

Does "Girlfriend In A Coma" count? I guess what I'm basically asking is:

Do you really think she'll pull through?

By the end of "Pink Frost" she's not just nearly dead, but really quite sincerely dead: "I'm really not lying/I'm so scared/but I have to stop crying/Now she's dead"

So she definitely bites it in the course of the song, but the cause remains ambiguous.

"Lasterday I Was Been Bad!"

Sorry. I didn't have my copy of "K.W. " handy ... just "Brave Words." Been a while since I played it. Now I have an excuse to do so. I still think "I Love My Leather Jacket" will remain my fave, however. As far as "Pink Frost" goes, whaddya think of the House of Love's version?

"Leader of the Pack" and lots of Dead Teenager songs from the 50s and 60s.
