transgender rock stars

Wayne/Jayne County

that lead singer from King Kobra, 80s hair metal vehicle for Carmine Appice

Genesis P. Orridge (sort of; more of a statement in body modification for art's sake than a true reassignment of sexual identity)

Amanda Lear (supposedly born Alain Tapp; the artist denies it but photographic evidence and eyewitness testimony strongly supports the case)

Whatever happened to good old "Sex change" and "cross-dressing"? I deny this concept of "Transgender". Pick a sex and get it over with, please.

AGREED!
And seriously, for those of us that are progressive enough to accept them, it's about time that LGBTQ drop the premise that sexuality is inherently political. yawn.

...coming from the perspective of attending a holiday party yesterday whose audience was primarily a gay desi audience - talk about conservative - I can honestly generalize here that their agenda was as narrow as any bible thumper I've met.

Either with us or against us, indeed. =P

I'll take the latter whenever someone posits that one.

Hey, slow down guys and gals, it's just yet another list.

Wendy/Walter Carlos Williams!

>Wendy/Walter Carlos Williams!

Not a rock star & not rock.

And where did the "Williams" come from???
Re: transgender rock stars
December 22, 2008 10:04PM
Ooops, you're right about the name. Must be a portmanteau of Walter Carlos Williams, or Wendy O. Williams and Walter something. Also agree about the genre. In my zeal to extend an uninspiring thread I have played havoc with the facts.

All I have to say about this topic is that my best friend and I debated for days over the gender of all four members of Poison between the time that the album hit the bins and our first exposure to the music video ... when our suspicions that the band stunk regardless of gender were quickly confirmed.

Zal Clemson, guitarist from the Sensational Alex Harvey Band and Nazareth.

Nah, not really. Just wanted to start a rumor and tried to think of the least likely person anyone would start a rumor about or would bother to check to see if any rumor about them was true.

Nobody even mentioned Michael Jackson.

Wonder of wonders....

Michael Stipe used to portray Frank N. Furter back when he was one of the Rocky Horror re-enactors at midnight showings at the old Varsity Theater in St Louis in the late 70s/very early 80s.

Have no idea if he was the Furter the only night I ever bothered to go to it - doubtful, as I think he'd moved to Georgia before I was old enough to drive into the big city to see such things. But if it was him, he took a shoe someone hurled from the audience right in the face and went down with a bloody nose. Why someone departed from the script and tossed an actual dangerous object that night I have no clue.

Well, actually, cramming a bunch of drunken and high idiots into a tiny theater at midnight on a weekend and encouraging chaos is probably all the clue one needs.

shoe hurling seems all the rage.
I personally condone it but lets get the subject/recipient right.

throw yours at a politician instead of cross dressers.

Hey now, don't strafe civilians. These were Don Randall's amps, after he left Fender. The man who named the Stratocaster, the Telecaster, and who essentially built the Fender brand while Leo tinkered away in the back room can be given some leeway here.

That said, I'll take a blackface Deluxe Reverb, duly dimed, over either a Marshall or a Randall.
Re: transgender rock stars
December 25, 2008 02:40AM
I'm sympathetic, but still...why cop the Marshall look so blatantly? If you have a great product shouldn't you get yourself a hot shot marketing guy and create your own brand image?

As for me, I'm pretty happy with my Victoria 20112 (narrow panel Fender Deluxe reproduction)

...and my Music Man 212-HD 130.

But if someone with a plexy Marshall stack or a Vox AC30TB wants to put me in their will I'd be happy with that too.

The only thing pleasantly surprising about this picture is the BOC logo button on his jacket. I didn't know the Stipester had taste.
Re: transgender rock stars

The picture of "Stipe N. Furter" is priceless. The action figure should look just like that!

Mike Mills as Columbia?
Peter Buck as Magenta?
Bill Berry as Dr. Scott?
Jefferson Holt as Riff-Raff?

... and Robyn Hitchcock can do the opening credits (a la "Surgery").

So now I have to know if R.E.M. ever did a song from TRHPS. Fire up those search engines! Armed and ready on the starboard bootlegs! I'm too lazy to go find out for myself!

Playing pretend:

What "Rocky Horror" tune should[i/] R.E.M. have covered and when?

I wonder ...

(((wavery daydream effect))) (dibs on the band name!)

...

(((wavery daydream effect)))

Naw. I'm just messing with you all. It's a lame notion. I would like to hear Hitchcock do that intro number, however. I know I have the tab around somewhere. Anybody know his e-mail address?
