I suggest starting with All Mod cons or Setting Sons.

With as much animosity that has built up between Paul Weller and Rick and Bruce I don't really see that as a possibility. Weller, being the Mod that he is, would really see that as against his whole modernist philosophy. Had there existed some bonds of friendship between them I could see it . There are certainly a lot of fans that would love the nostalgia trip. As it stands, though, I don't see what the point would be other than for money. I think that Rick and Bruce have the right idea touring on their own without Weller.

As for whether they stopped at the right time, I think that they did. You could certainly hear Weller outgrowing the power (pop) trio format on "The Gift". The Style Council was not a radical departure, if you listen to where Weller was going on "Beat Surrender" but they were different enough that you could tell it wasn't the Jam. As it stands, each of the Jam's albums are worthwhile and artistic achievements in their own right. It is a legacy to be proud of and I am glad they ended it on a high note.
