Paste's Album of the year - She and Him

I stand by my belief that most of the praise for this very pleasant but ultimately unremarkable album comes from the same nerdy impulse as laughing too loudly at a pretty girl's attempt at telling jokes at a party. I have as big a crush on Zooey Deschanel as the next guy does, but not so much that I would put her album any higher than #60 or so out of the 100 best released this year.

Still, she's the only thing that makes the Hitchhiker's Guide movie watchable.

You mean they didn't pick the Scarlett Johanssen record?

I had previously never heard of Paste, but after looking at the list, I would say, see my "song=chorus chorus chorus" thread.

She & Him typify that thing where stuff that is annoying is now perceived as "good" and conversely stuff that is actually "good" is perceived as too loud.

When did the dweebs take over and why won't they leave?

On the plus side that list reminded me that I liked the Raveonettes record and the Gentleman Jesse record. Those 2 are top 10 for me for the year probably.

Other observations :

1. I can't even remember records I enjoyed from a few months ago.

2. Paste really overrates Vampire Weekend.

> the Gentleman Jesse record.

i have a problem with power pop records that aren't catchy. and it seems he's almost too gentlemanly to amp up the power. light on the power and even lighter on the pop; pretty bland, in my opinion.

did pick up the new yum yums record today. hopefully that'll be up to their usual high standards!

The best Fred Negro vehicle I saw was The Band That Shot Liberty Valance but he’s probably been in half a dozen bands I’ve never heard of.
Must confess to hearing only one Fuck Fucks song – Beer Sandwich.
