weird that you mention johnny. as a kid my dad and i sold baseball cards at shows and johnny ramone used to buy from us.
i remember him buying yankees and brooklyn dodger stuff.
he used to come to the shows with a very sweet blonde haired girl who i heard used to be joeys gf.
he was kind of quiet and very polite especially to my mom n dad

I read that she talked him into the monument and spending a huge sum of money on it was worth it because it would be "bigger than Jim Morrison's"

You're right, it's a weird question, so I'm going to request some more detail. Just what do you mean, "the NY Mets of TP music"? Or any other kind of music, for that matter. (I don't go very deeply into sports, so the comparison you're looking for is lost on me.)

Nice shots of Linda, btw.

I guess my question's going to go unanswered: what exactly do you mean, "The NY Mets of TP music"?

Satch apparently decided, "If he has to ask, he'll never understand."

Delvin, you're probably not a baseball fan, so let me try to explain it to you. What Satch is asking is what band and/or performer who would be considered part of the TP galaxy, despite having advantages in talent or other areas, comes up short in satisfaction in either an artistic and/or commercial sense. The NY Mets, despite having a payroll in the hundreds of millions of dollars & talented players, did not get into the playoffs for a second year in a row. This is known as "choking" in baseball. Another grand example would be in the 2004 ALCS in which the other New York team, the Yankees, who also has a large payroll & talented players & lost to the Boston Red Sox in 7 games. despite the fact that it won the first 3 games of the 4 it needed to win, the last by 19-8.

I hope I answered your question.

It would have to be Throneberry, then.

You're welcome Delvin.

On the subject of Johnny Ramone's gravestone, I wonder what people 3,000 or so years from now would think of it. They would probably think that it was a gravesite of some leader of a tribe called "The Ramones" & was portrayed carrying a weapon of some sort.

Yeah, that's a perfectly clear answer. Thanks, Joe.

And scrolling back, I now see that Satch's post includes a link to a picture that didn't download on my PC. I'm guessing he did try to answer my question with a picture (which is worth ... well, you know), but his answer just didn't show up on my screen. So I take back what I said, Satch. Much respect.

To suggest an (admittedly obvious) answer to the original question: Pearl Jam. Plenty of instrumental talent, a distinctive singer, deep roots in one of the most respected bands in their original scene, and the consistent support of a major label. Yet the group, IMO, hasn't put out an album that really has delivered the payload since Vs.

Love Spit Love, Morrissey & Siouxsie EP, Electrafixion, Wir, Screaming Lord Sutch And Heavy Friends?

(Being in NYC and more a Mets fan than Yankees, I would still say these examples really are musical equivalents to the Mets - I really wouldn't emphasize the talent angle too much)

Agree with Satch. I loved that song when it came out (and still do), and thought it'd be the one to break the Ramones at last. That's what I get for thinking.

(BTW, I did get to see the Yankees play the Blue Jays over Labor Day weekend. Not a great game, but a terrific time.)
