Just saw that on Yahoo. I had no idea he was sick. A shame - he was always the most underrated member of the Floyd.

Agreed. I think he was a casualty of Waters & Gilmour's battle for control of the band, and since Waters couldn't feasibly kick Gilmour out, Wright paid the price by being kicked out as an official member and demoted to a session musician.

But that worked out well for him financially, since he earned more from touring as a session musician with Floyd than he would have as a band member, which would have meant having to partially bear the cost of the tour.

I've read that Waters, Gilmour and Mason ended up bearing a net loss from The Wall tour, while Wright made a profit.
