If you were a professional baseball player, what would you choose for your theme song when you step up to bat at a home game?

And if perchance you are a professional ball player, what is your theme song?

Rhett's post on the "I kid you not" thread made me think of this.

Level of difficulty: no baseball songs! (John Fogertys' "Centerfield" etc)

Me? Kurtis Blow's "Basketball." That would really mess with everyone's heads, a baseball player stepping to the plate while the PA blasts: "Basketball is my favorite sport! I like the way they dribble up & down the court..."

I think my introduction song as I step out of the plate in Fenway would be "Till the End of the Day" by the Kinks.

I caught that show couple years ago here in LA (ticket price only $10!!), but he couldn't quite round up a hundred guitarists. Still 90-something was close enough. Mike Watt was one of the 15 bassists - lean back in your seat when they all play and it feels like one of those vibrating motel-room beds.

Thanks, Fab. For some reason, I didn't think to include that caveat. Perhaps I just thought it'd be assumed. Silly me.

My choice, if I were in the big game, would be "TV Eye." That bellowing scream, followed by that raw, nasty riff ... Oh yeah! In yo' face!

I think Glenn Branca's "Lightfield (In Consonance)" would instill the proper amount of awe when I stepped to the plate. Especially if they played all 9 minutes of it.

Or else Altered Images' version of "Song Sung Blue," which sadly would probably be even more in line with my athletic prowess. (Not for nothing was I an art major).

Branca is coming to STL in October - doing the Night of 100 Guitars with the symphony, but so far I've not been able to figure out where to buy tix.

Glenn Branca is so cool, Thurston Moore sits around the house and wishes he was as cool as Glenn Branca.

I'd probably step up to the plate with something inexplicably dumb: "Steal My Sunshine," by LEN (or was it Len?) comes to mind.

I know next to nothing about baseball but you can't beat Dirty Deeds for a football team running onto the field.

I personally would choose a wistful theme song which lulls the opposing pitcher into a state of thougtfulness and distraction: maybe something by Broken Social Scene. If this backfires, screw it: New Bomb Turks - Mr Suit.
