Who haven't you gotten to see yet?

Who haven't you gotten to see yet?

What artist(s) have you been eager to see live, but haven't gotten the opportunity yet? I'm talking about artists who are around today, and who do perform/tour with some regularity, but who either haven't come through your neck of the wasteland, or have scheduled gigs at times when you simply couldn't go.

The Futureheads and Bloc Party top my wanna-see list. Arctic Monkeys, The Fratellis and Radio 4 are on the list too.

Erik's post on the Fratellis thread made me think this would be a good new topic.

Ditto on the Arctic Monkeys. I'd also like to see Stephen Malkmus and Morrissey. Soul Asylum too.

There's only one band that I feel that I've seen enough and lost interest in enough (despite being a onetime advocate) to never have to see again: Wilco.

I'm not sure if this is part of the Wilco backlash or just that I've reached a completely neutral place with the band.

Since I brought it up: a soul asylum clarification. I'd like to see them NOW. I saw them in the '80s when I was young and didn't know a dang thing about them. Though I was moved by the show I saw (circa Hang Time).

The Walkabouts. Looks like they'll never play in America again, let alone tour here. In Europe they get a tour every couple of years, and Chris and Carla shows in between.

I should make more of an effort to see a Pogues show before Shane keels over, even though it would just be a shadow, too.

as the Felt once said, "all the people I like are those that are dead"

Porcupine Tree. The Jesus & Mary Chain. Iron & Wine (fortunately, this is going to happen in a few months). Aimee Mann (ditto).

I saw Soul Asylum on their tour supporting Grave Dancer's Union. They were, unfortunately, awful. I'd loved their records for a long time and I was crushed at how bad they were that night. That still stands as the most disillusioning concert I've ever seen.

In defense of Soul Asylum. Sorry that you didn't enjoy them on their Grave Dancers tour. Aside from an iffy cover of Burma's Revolver, I thought the club performance that I saw was a great show...maybe because they followed the Goo Goo Dolls, i dunno. Haven't seen them since, but up until that record, they always put on high energy, worthwhile shows.

Lucero

The Black Lips

Both bands with weighty live reputations and seeing them never works out for me.

I prefer to do like a friend of mine does, which is lie about seeing people who I think it's important to claim to have seen, and do so to such an extent that I eventually begin to believe it myself.

I'm pretty sure at this point he could convince himself he saw Buddy Holly, even though Holly died several years prior to his birth.

They had a rep at the time as one of the greatest live bands around, and I was still in love with Hangtime and And the Horse You Rode In On (and GDU as well, actually), so it was an incredible letdown. I realize they may have just had a bad night, but I could never bring myself to give them another chance after that. For that matter, I haven't liked a studio record since. Though I still adore the above-mentioned.

saw Souls Asylum a few months ago with Tommy Stinson on bass and they were better than I remembered............

Despite my geographical disadvantage, I've been pretty lucky in that some bands that I really loved but had no popularity here at all, actually toured, Echo & The Bunnymen (1980) and Killing Joke (1986) and more recently Richmond Fontaine.

Having said that, quite a few never made it here, the most obvious for me being The Jam.

Right now though, I'd love to see Bill Laswell and/or any of his associated projects.

I saw Soul Asylum perform in a small town in South Dakota in 1999 — long past their purported '80s prime.

All I can say is, if it's true that they went into decline after Grave Dancers Union, then they must have been nothing short of apocalyptic in the '80s.
