check out loudon wainwrights song called new bob dylans.
it talks about springsteen, hinself, steve forbert, and john prine being cosidered dylans bratty younger bothers n cousins and that they have all meet together and have a 12 step program type meeting and bruces wife patti makes sandwiches.
the list is preety accurate in the respect that if you read a review of their work at the time their first few albums either the term the next dylan or some sort of comparison was made.
a few more can be added to a lesser extent.
graham parker- when with the rumour the dylan band comparsions ive seen numerous times and it makes sense.
elvis costello- dont see it but a strong songwriter with passion is bound to get comparisons.

lately ive been reading a few reviews with the same kind of feel of new dylan but subsitute new springsteen - example bright eyes, the hold steady etc.

Ironically, Jakob was the new Petty or Springsteen. Go figure.

I've always thought Jeff Tweedy was the "new Fogerty".

Re. the "new Springsteens," I'll claim dibs on the compilation title "Meet the New Boss"... Speaking of which, Marah, (out of Philly)- those guys have been the new Springsteen so long, I'm going to start claiming The Hold Steady is the new Marah.

According to the new SPIN, Springsteen is apparently a big Apples in Stereo fan.

That has nothing to do with anything. I just thought it was kind of cool.

How about Steve Earle as a new Dylan and/or new Springsteen?

Steve Earle is a good one.

I remember Conor Oberst/Bright Eyes getting alot of (questionable) Dylan comparisons in the mainstream press around the time of "I'm Wide Awake, It's Morning".

steve earle got the springsteen tag and the admiration of bruce as well.
according to the steve earle book hard core troubador springsteen was seen walking into a record store and purchasing guitar town his debut album. that event got some press in billboard .
i did see steve earle in 1998 in a club in jersey and there was a special guest by the name of spirngsteen who i was discussing his music with at the bar earlier that day.
