I gotta agree with Christgau here. Maybe I'm too young to make the leap into sophisticated trad-pop fizz that Lowe's putting out, and I certainly wouldn't want him to "fake it" if he's not feeling it..............but I don't get "At My Age" either.

At 58 he should be just the right age to reform Rockpile and release "Thirds of Pleasure" - the most baffling 2nd album title in history dammit.

I disagree. That piece of writing struck me as a bit pretentious. Wit: "I Trained Her to Love Me"? Romance: "Hope For Us All"?

Depending on the sources, Dave Edmunds will be 64 or 65, Billy Bremner is 61 (anyone heard "No Ifs Buts Or Maybes", or the Refreshments?), Terry Williams is 60..................perfect time for Thirds of Pleasure, or Sloppy Seconds of Pleasure.......

It must be tough for the Dean these days. Old enough to collect Social Security and still reviewing bands young enough to be his grandkids. To a young band, a Christgau review must seem like the written equivalent of some old fart yelling at you to get out of his yard. Lucky for him somebody is still willing to walk him to a keyboard for cash up front to write about crusties like Nick Lowe.
