Art Brut remains singular..
With that said, ART BRUT (originally realeased on UK's Fierce Panda label in '05 then again quickly released on the US' "Downtown" label... reminds the unsuspecting listener (you know who you are) with anti-war directness.
Picking up somehow exactly where and alongside other long since stowed away recollections of lost but not forgotten U2 like memorabilia items.
The sort of thing that true collectors feverishly search out .
A trilogy of sorts, least we forget, the band (not the cherished AmeriCanadian BAND) but the one from Ireland, did in fact deliver to the world 'Boy' and some thrown together music & lyrics for their second record OCTOBER.
Lots of you out there always say to yourself at this point in my (what shall we call them?) writings...
What the fuck STEVE?
Well it's like this see, a guy I know, UNION stagehand I think, whom I will never reveal to the world, since THE WORLD is the current topic of discussion, said to me one day, " We went to do our laundry that night and when we opened the dryer, so as to dry the clothes we just washed, "There were some clothes already there." Please excuse my puncuation, never my strong suit.
"What shall I do?" my friend must have (hadn't he?) said to hisself.
Certainly, he like each of us, thought, "Should I TAKE these unclaimed articles or not?" was really the question, aye?
I"M ADLIBBING HERE: "Who the fuck is U2 anyway?" We should assume was his next trend of soliloquy.
The only reason why I tell this story is because I believe my friend that stole U2's very own personal concert tour T-shirts that I won't mention here, and from that very first American Album 'Boy' tour, he would want us to share with him our feelings and sentiments too if not the very T-Shirts soon to be bootlegged on ebay tomorrow.
After all, what would you have done?
Getting back to the buisness at hand, ART BRUT's 2005/2006 album, depending on what particular hemisphere you live in, include "Warplane" like samples, the same one's even that the BUSH/CHENEY regime use to bomb innocents in IRAQ at present (stay tuned IRAN!) sound effects.
Luckily these effects are but one of many truly gratifying and liberating sounds that surround and acheive equal parts = feist and poetic majesty.
From porch muzak, John Lydon/Bob Dylan imagery to 'Us vs. Them fireblasts...
Now here's some music to guide us into the twenty first century.
(Thanks for lettin me continue to update TP regs.)
And no, I don't know who stole the lyrics to the original October album.
