The pursuit of bargains

The pursuit of bargains

I found the first three CDs by The Pursuit of Happiness in the used CD bin, for $4 each. The bargain of the month, for sure ... perhaps of the entire year! Especially since all three titles apparently are out of print.

The TP review slags One-Sided Story as a sophomore slump. Far from it, IMO.

I agree about One-Sided Story - I love it nearly as much as Love Junk and The Downward Road.

Whatever happened to them? I know they put out a couple of Canada-only records, and Moe Berg apparently released a solo album at some point. Is he/they still musically active?

The first side of Love Junk is one power-pop classic after another. What an incredible arena-sized production on that record: the guitars, drums, and background vocals all sound huge, huge, huge.

One-Sided Story is almost universally slagged. I am glad to hear that it is better than expected. I will have to pick it up.

The Downward Road is nearly as good as the first two CDs. It misses Rundgren's production; Ed Stasium gives the proceedings a bit too much of an arena-rock sound, IMO. But the songs are there.

From what I've gleaned online, the band reunites occasionally for a gig or two, usually in Canada.
