Not their best album ... but their show was easily the best I've seen so far this year.

It's got to be the first Mike Watt album where you can't hear much bass.

Not as awful as many claimed, but still no great shakes. Some good songs, some really bad ones...a mixed bag.

Delvin's right, though - onstage these guys still have the goods, even on the lousy songs. And I applaud them for mixing the new material in with the old - this is no oldies act, and I respect the hell out of 'em for that, regardless of what I think of the new songs.

None of the available options on the poll really work for me. I think it's pretty bad, but not completely awful. As I said in another thread, though I generally like Albini's production, I don't think it works here. Can't say he ruined it though, 'cuz I don't think it woulda been any good no matter who produced it. Maybe SPOT could have made the album truly awful.

If I could submit a response, it would be "adequate to very good, but superfluous/unneccessary."

Overall, though, a solid effort. And unexpected. I think that's a compliment, but could see it being read as something else. My reaction to Joey Ramone's solo album was the same.
