ARTISTS WHO SUCESSFULLY REINVENTED THEMSELVES.

I was just reading about eric carmens dui arrest and was thinking about how he had moderate sucess in power pop with the rasberries which is im sure a band that many in here like. his later solo stuff im fairly sure most of us dont like or are indifferent.
which leads me to my question.
name a few artists who had commercial sucess and than reinvented themselves with more artistic integrity.

here are a few to start.

dion- reinvented himself with a aucoustic guitar n did a lot of folk n blues stuff.
rick nelson- in the late 60s n early 70s put out some good country music and did some great dylan covers.
aimeee mann- started out in till tuesday and her solo stuff although i find to be a mixed bag is def different.
dan zane- dont know if you can say he improved but he has had big sucess as with kids music as opposed to being in the del fuegos.

Between their stints in The English Beat and FYC, Steele and Cox recorded as 2 Men, a Drum Machine & a Trumpet. Their big 12" from 1987 was "Tired of Getting Pushed Around" (co-produced by the legendary Derrick May). I thought it was brilliant at the time, but, in retrospect drugs may have played a role in that assessment.
