> Bob Seger - "Still the Same"
no "chain smokin'", "persecution smith", "2+2=?", "death row", "innervenus eyes", "east side story", "heavy music", etc etc?
the only reo song i used to like was "157 riverside avenue", but hopefully i've outgrown that nonsense by now. hehe

The Cure - Boys Don't Cry
The Eagles - Take it Easy (even though it is an astonishingly dumb song, I have a soft spot in my heart for it).
Scandal/Patty Smythe - Goodbye to You

Awww, Satch. I was with you on the Seger, but then you had to go and diss the Dolls. What about Trash and Pills, two of the all time classics?
I agree with everyone on The Cure. They have a fanatical fan base, but to the uninitiated, only a few songs from their vast catalog hold up. I would opt for Lullaby over Boys Dont Cry and Lets Go to Bed, but the principal remains the same: the hardcore fans tend to favor their worst songs -- that moody, tuneless, gothic crap from the early 80's.
Never will I deign to admit liking an Eagles song.

Fleetwood Mac - Tusk
CCR - Sweet Hitchhiker
Runaways - Cherry Bomb
"Never will I deign to admit liking an Eagles song."
or a Billy Joel song.
Are The Cure the alternative Greatful Dead?
They've got the huge cult following that leaves outsiders scratching their heads, but for the occasional song (for me it's "The Walk" - killer synth hook).

I think the Cure are the alternative Eagles. They took a style that had been pioneered by others (goth/country rock), polished it up enough to break into the mainstream, and churned out formula crap all the way to the bank.

typical internet board post follows::
The Cure had a great mid-80s peak and were instrumental to taking the genre to unique places. Along with Siouxsie, they were originators.
(My favorite Cure track - A Forest.)
Their first LP was over-polished by the label making it not what it could have been. Seems Smith & co. overcompensated for a few LPs after that, though 17 Seconds is great. The Head on the Door is a quintessential 80s LP.
After that, Kiss Me and Disintergration are 50% excellent.
The Dead or Eagles? Might as well compare them to Young Gods and Can.

I like the Eagles of Death Metal and Al Hirt is the godhead.
Didn't Joe Walsh do "In the City" on "The Warriors" soundtrack?
At first I thought it was a "my favorite song by" when i saw the dolls and big star, thin lizzy and ccr.
I musta got lost somewhere down the line..................

Hmmm. Apparently I hadn't heard "Terror Couple Kills Colonel" back in '06. Though I may just like that song for the title.

Actually, I like quite a few by Bauhaus: "Double Dare," "In the Flat Field," "Lagartija Nick," "Kick in the Eye," "Terror Couple Kill Colonel, "She's in Parties," "St. Vitus Dance" and (natch) "Bela Lugosi's Dead." I also like their cover of "Telegram Sam."
And I have a soft spot for "Burning from the Inside," since they opened with it when I saw them.
