 Interviewing Tony Levin today
Author: Michael Toland

Trying not to be terrified at interviewing a living legend.

This is in context of a show preview for King Crimson, who are starting their summer tour here in Austin.

Demand he account for his intolerable prancing here:

I suppose it's all Gabriel's fault and he made his band do it, but damn. There is some unsightly prancing going on in this clip.

What the FUCK was that all about? Did Gabriel watch the Time in Purple Rain right before starting choreography?

Levin was a super nice guy. I was a little intimidated, given his history (he first appeared on record in 1970!), but he was very friendly and chill.

Tony Levin ought not have been made to canter and gambol like a New Kid on the Block. I'll bet Fripp never demands he skip after him like a schoolgirl.

I would have asked him about this:

Very cool, Mr Toland. I met Tony at the merch booth when his band The Stickmen opened for Porcupine Tree. Very personable and down to earth, glad to chat with fans and sign autographs.

Holy mother, even Shankar was getting into the act. It would have been much cooler if Levin was prancing around playing the stick instead of a traditional electric bass.

As an aside, I've always been a fan of David Rhodes' guitar playing. Wish he did more outside of his work with Gabriel (and I know he has, it's been very low profile, though).

Tony Levin is a mensch! A hyper-talented mensch. Long may he thump. Got my tix for Crimson next month. Salivating at new lineup.
