can anyone recommend a recently released smart jangle pop album? maybe i should just go ahead and pick up that new PENELOPES (Hiko Watanabe that is- not that other lame band from france by the same name-PENELOPES, not Wantanabe) album...
so i google PENELOPES and what do i get? a band from every country in the world except Hiko's...wtf?

I never get tired of recommending my buddy Randy's band Leatherbag. You can listen on their Bandcamp page, and pay what you will. Start with Hey Day, Randy's tribute to the Reivers, the Wild Seeds and the other new sincerity bands from Austin back in the 80s.
I also highly recommend Wiretree's latest LP Make Up.

oh how i love those presto/eZ links MT. i remember digging Wiretree in the last batch of battle of the power pop bands you sent me. i thank you for that.
i'm really no different from any middle aged idealist. i still beleive that the power pop genre will ultimately produce the savoirs of our galaxy.
but its now or never for randy travis to cross over.

but didn't his drummer join the BIGGER LOVERS or something...
ps - it's not exactly SOS smoke signals yet but i/we are still accepting lodging accomodations for the 9/8 gig in philly.

Berkery was actually in the Bigger Lovers before the Pernices (he's a Philly dude). . . Great drummer; very Ric Menck-like. In fact, the last time I saw the Pernices, Menck sat in because Berkery had a family emergency back in Philly. It's great to see the Bigger Lovers back together. . .
