Wow.
I finally got around to seeing the doc a few weeks ago after chancing upon it at a local video store and I thought it was pretty great. And pretty sad. They're coming thru here at the end of the month (and playing the Bumbershoot festival, Delvin) and I think I'll try to go catch them.
Oh, and as you noted in the previous thread, Michael, the absence of Fish from the movie was troubling. So I sent an e-mail to the filmmakers asking about that, and here's what Chris Metzler told me:
Alas, we would have liked to include more about Fish as he is a rocking drummer. Unfortunately once he declined to participate due to business reasons (even though he and Norwood are still close) we were limited to archival interviews of him of which there weren't many and it was difficult to talk about a person not featured. Sorry about that, but glad you still liked the film. Rumor on the street is that Fish would like to make his own documentary and if so, we'll be the first in line to watch it as that should be a pretty intriguing film.

"Business reasons." I guess it's the same as Joan Jett not participating in the Runaways doc because she had her own film in development (which turned into the movie I refuse to see because it has the Twilight chick in it).
Agreed, though - it's a fine, if disturbing, film. I'm glad the band was willing to let themselves be seen as real people. Too many music documentaries seem like filmed press releases these days.

I was never a huge fan of the band, but the documentary was exceptional. There was something totally non-contrived and unflinching about it.
Wish I could say the same for that self-aggrandizing piece-of-crap the ex-Hole drummer put out.
Did anyone see the Gorillaz doc from a few years back ("Bananaz")? Pretty unflinching--perhaps too much. One scene too many of Damon Albarn puking or taking a crap. (One scene is one scene too many in my mind.) It can be found on the youtubes.

Fishbone in the Economist? Robert Fripp in the Financial Times? Who's next - Ian MacKaye in the Wall Street Journal? I do remember many years ago reading a feature article about Trent Reznor (before he became a respectable film composer) in the NY Times. I found it funny the way the Times kept referring to him as Mr. Reznor. I know they do that with everyone but to the anti-establishment hero at the time, it seemed particularly ironic.
About Fishbone, I saw them last May and I'm pretty sure that Walter Kibby II was there as well, so unless he's left again, there are three original members. I have to say I was underwhelmed. This was the third time for me and it seemed like they were playing to the (middle-aged) frat boys in the crowd. It was all "Let's get high" or ''Get Laid". The high point (for me) came during the encore when HR came out for and did "The Youth are Getting Restless", though I'm sure most of the crowd a) didn't know who he was and b) didn't appreciate the slow reggae song.
