AKA half the Thrak band. No, Fripp won't be there, but Belew, Mastelloto and Levin will be, with touch guitarist Markus Reuter in place of Trey Gunn, and Belew's bassist Julie Slick and a drummer I've never heard of. It's not KC, but it's as close as I'll likely ever come to seeing them, so I ain't complaining.

Sounds like a great show! I've seen Belew, Levin and Mastelloto multiple times each, in a variety of lineups (including KC), and I'll be glad to see any of them on any future occasion. I'm confident you won't be disappointed, Mr. Toland. Enjoy! Full TP report afterward, please.

They played for only 40 minutes, alas (standard for an opening act, but I figured they'd get a little more respect from the headliners), but it was an action-packed 40 minutes. Mostly from Discipline ("Thela Hun Ginjeet," "Frame By Frame," "Elephant Talk," "Discipline"), plus "Neurotica" from Beat, "Dinosaur" from Thrak and "Red" from, uh, Red. (I'm sure I forgot something - I think they opened with an improvisation.)
Markus Reuter covered Fripp's parts. It was great to see Tony Levin working the Stick - that instrument baffles me, frankly. The whole band looked like they were having a good time playing the songs. Belew (who, I have to say, looks old) smiled a lot and exchanged old-pal looks with Levin and Mastelloto.
The venue was maybe half full for their set, but the folks there were way into it.

I thought this was weird - Crimson w/out Fripp?! - but this explains it:

Shame. Guess I missed my chance to see him w/Belew & Co. (I did see him with his League of Crafty Guitarists in '89 - he even did a q&a session for all the guitar geeks in the crowd).

Well, he did put this out last year. I don't think he's completely retired yet. But I understand his frustration.
Surely he's working with Universal in order to license the Crimson reissues, though. That seems to be moving apace.
