 Anticipation. . .

Nosepail (re: Japanfroids--"Japandroids". . . sorry, a 'froidian slip.) got me thinking about other upcoming releases I'm slathering over and eagerly awaiting. I don't think they've gotten any love here yet, but June 12th will see the new Niki and the Dove. Interestingly, I've had them and Little Dragon (via a DJ Shadow collaboration) on heavy rotation lately in the iThing, not realizing they were both from Sweden (and assuming they were simply electro-soulful US urbanites). Since I tend to keep an eye on Scandinavian acts (those are my funky ancestral people, baby), particularly the underheralded, this was surprising.

Niki's gonna hurt herself she's so bad: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EKdcj8cv75k

The new dB's record comes out in a couple of weeks. I was fortunate enough to get an advance, and lemme tell y'all - it's worth the wait.

Looking forward to hearing the second Jeffrey Lee Pierce Sessions release, The Road Is Long. We Are Only Riders was my album of the year for 2010.

I need to get both of those. They keep slipping off my radar.

The new Alejandro Escovedo album is terrific, by the by. That's one we should all anticipate.

Speaking of Jeffrey Lee Pierce:

I still haven't seen that documentary. . . I need to get my hands on a copy.

New Missy Higgins. New Men Without Hats.

That's right.

There is a rumor that The Wrens will put out a new album sometime this year. But the same sentence would also be true in any of the last 10 years. But if this one is truer than those ones, my tongue would be wagging with excitement.

Listening to that new Men Without Hats track makes me realize that the guy in Interpol sings a heck of lot more like Ivan Doruschuk than Ian Curtis.

Meanwhile, I went looking for pictures where Ian Curtis appeared to be doing The Safety Dance and found this:

It's a sick, twisted world.

OK, This might be easier. Who does Paul Banks, singer of Interpol, NOT sound like? Right now I can only count 3... Cyndi Lauper, Frankie Valli and the dude from The Sparks. That might just be the definitive list.

I've been a Missy Higgins fan since she was a tender 20 year old (8 years ago). Her latest (on Vagrant[!] in the US), The Ol' Razzle Dazzle is pretty damn good. Like everything she's done, in the U.S., this will most likely be ignored by the mainstream and considered way too mainstream.
