 Happy b'day Robert Moog

78 years old today.

Makes me wish I was able to DJ a show for him. Oh well, someone at KRCC will give him proper tribute, I'm sure of it.

If you go to Google today, they have a virtual Moog synth you can play with. I've had a very unproductive day thanks to that thing.

Toland, does your love of prog extend back to ELP. Have you been playing Lucky Man all day on the Goog-Moog?

I met Bob in 1998. Shook his hand! He appeared at a big ol' show in his honor featuring, amongst others, The Moog Cookbook; one of the members of Fishbone performing on a theremin; and Don Bolles dj-ed spinning Moog oldies.

You know, it's pretty much the same synth tone as "Lucky Man." I can't replicate the lick with just a mouse, though.

I'm tempted to go on a rant how, as a prog lover, I think ELP represents everything wrong with the genre, but I'll save that for another thread/time & place.

Instead, enjoy the synth. You can also record your doodles and post them!

Michael, you can also use the keyboard to play. See this link for a complete explanation of how to play today's Google Moog Doodle:

I haven't even tried it, and I've already been pretty much useless all day. Who needs Google!

So. What's the single greatest "Moog moment?"

Either the opening blast of Rush's "2112" or the solo in Owsley's "Zavelov House."

Lester Bangs's referring to synth sounds as "robot farts".
