I remember wishing them Strokes-sized success when the two bands emerged at the same time. From my college alma mater too! I still listen to that first album on occasion; I can't say that for much else from 2001.

Heck, I still wish The Strokes that level of success. The most recent albums by both bands are pretty good almost on a par with their respective debuts.

The third great band to break big in 2001-2002? The Hives. Still waiting on the five young men in black & white from Sweden to come up with something new.

I loved their 1st 2 albums but haven't found anything after those to have the same quality. They ultimately disappointed.
