When every time you hear about Robert Griffin's likely position in the NFL draft this year you wonder when the guy from Prisonshake learned to play football.

Or when you hear a basketball fan mention Mookie Blaylock and instantly think of Pearl Jam.

You can remember when "alternative" music stayed unheard of instead of being all over the place in the mainstream today.

I thought about Metta World Peace but just didn't think it would be a good band name. Unless maybe it's spelled differently, as you did: Metta World Piece. (Hey, it worked for Gnarls Barkely.)

Last Thanksgiving, I attended my first-ever Guilford College (Greensboro, NC) basketball game. The Fighting Quakers were playing the Randolph-Macon College (Ashland, VA) Yellow Jackets. The game itself wasn't that spectacular, but I learned two important things:
1. Guilford has retired World B. Free's number (as "World B.," not "Lloyd B.");
2. World B. Free is from Atlanta.
I also learned that Guilford is home to a pretty big community of extremely polite skaterats.

I saw World B. Free playing for some b-league team years ago against the b-league team from Miami (the Tropics, perhaps?) They played in the gym of the local community college. WBF's team showed up 30 minutes late and looked like they just woke up and stumbled off the bus.

You know you're a TPer when......
You still occasionally check to see if Denzil has put out a new album.

When you hear the phrase Johnny THunders, you sometimes immediately think of the Heartbreaker, and sometimes the Kinks song.

Y'know there was renewed interest in denzil about 5 or 6 years ago, there were a few gigs in the UK, denzilpub.co.uk was up and active, it looked like circumstances were ideal for a return of some sort.
It was not to be. Although you can still hear four demos here:
