Gary Carter was a class act. I'd have been proud to have him as a Red Sock. I loved the fact that he went into the Hall as an Expo. . .
And speaking of onetime Mets catchers, I again send out a plea to the TP community to listen to Belle & Sebastian's song about Mike Piazza (on Dear Catastrophe Waitress). The idea that they would even be driven to take up the topic of Mets baseball is a true head scratcher.
In other news, I am going to see the Celtics in April. There should be a song about Celts guard Danny Ainge, who once even played pro baseball for the Toronto Blue Jays.

It is very sad. That kind of "dying within months of being diagnosed" shit scares the hell out of me.
On the baseball tip, I assume any of you baseball fans have checked out the stuff by The Baseball Project. If not, you should - it's pretty great.

'94 strike team? Gary Carter retired in '92 and Dawson was w/ the Red Sox. I don't know where Parrish was, but it wasn't on a team with either.
Now the Expos in '94 had some talent, but none by the names of Carter, Dawson, or Parrish.

i met gary carter as he was headed to the park early at shea stadium.
it was 1983 and he was an expo. i see gary walking in and i figured he was in a hurry so i didnt ask him for an autograph. he asked if i wanted him to sign the ball, he signed it and talked to me for a bit. i never saw a guy with so much energy and love for the game and not just the game but he was loving life.

Growing up an Expos fan in the 1970s, Carter was my idol. His death was a surprisingly huge story in Montreal, probably the most anyone has talked about baseball since the 1994 strike.
It's the 1981 team (also a strike-shortened season) that had Dawson, Carter and Parrish. And others. Damn you, Rick Monday, damn you...

Ah, but that 94 team did have Larry Walker, Pedro Martinez, John Wetteland, Moises Alou and others that had career years that year. It was a great team and would've won the series. That strike killed my enthusiasm for baseball that I have still yet to regain.
