Probably the last of the greats of the Golden Age of Comics.

Well, I guess Stan Lee was around back then, but he was more of an office gopher at the time than anything else. He was doing a little bit of writing, but nothing too terribly important.

I hate it when pioneers die. They're supposed to live forever, goddammit! At least their work will.

True. At least Simon got to live long enough to enjoy some of the acclaim due him and one of his last public appearances was getting to attend the premiere of the Captain America movie, where he was by all accounts treated with the deference he deserved. So that was nice. Just too bad Kirby couldn't have hung around long enough to get a taste of that, too.

Man, 98...that's a damn good run. Glad he got to see the movie.
