Evening Standards (Island) 1980
No Tie Like a Present (Island) 1981
This English one-hit-wonder's one hit, "Back of My Hand," sounded remarkably like Elvis Costello. (Once other bands had repeated that feat, the Jags faded into obscurity.) Surprisingly, their first album, Evening Standards, contained other interesting examples of enthusiastic rock-pop, and indicated possible staying power.
Despite a lineup change, new producer (Alex Sadkin) and an amusing title, No Tie Like a Present failed to get the Jags back in the public's ear. Not a bad band by any means, the Jags promised great things and delivered far less.[Ira Robbins]
